The Laundry Society: Small Loads, Life-Changing Impact

In our very first week of operation, Laundry Society helped three children at Melrose Elementary come to school in clean clothes. We are starting small, with purpose. Small acts, done with care, will grow.

Three children is a successful start and a huge deal for the kids we serve. Going from zero to delivering our first batch of laundry was a big step.  We are on our way to solving the hang-ups and moving onward to help more children in Saint Petersburg.

Clean clothes are not just about hygiene. Clean clothes are about dignity. Having clean clothes is about walking into a classroom without fear of being noticed for the wrong reasons. Kids can be free to raise a hand instead of shrinking into the background. A simple load of laundry can change how a child sees themselves, and how the world responds.  Clean clothes can help give a child a voice.

As Friends, we often ask: What does it mean to see that of God in everyone? Sometimes, listening as Friend means noticing what others overlook.

Kids living in cars, shifting situations, or motels have many challenges beyond our control, but the solution to getting clean clothes for kids is remarkably simple.

For less than the cost of a dinner out, we can wash, dry, and deliver clean clothes to a child at school for an entire week. No complex systems. No large overhead. No heavy lifting.  The project is simple, direct, and practical.

If you feel even a small nudge reading this article, we invite you to act on your inclinations with a donation to the project via the Meeting for the February. Your support helps us reach the next child, and the next.

If you would like to support Laundry Society or learn more, we welcome your partnership.
